The Tsotili town

Tsotili is located in an altitude of 840m and constitutes the administrative and economical center of the homonym Municipality. However, in earlier times, Tsotili was one of the most significant commercial centers of the Western Macedonia. The Tsotili’s great market was widely known. It was somewhere in 1833, when the weekly market of Tsotili, known as the ‘’Kari Pazar’’, has been established by a soldanic announcement. This market performed every Saturday and was widely attended by the inhabitants of the area. It is not accidental that all paths in Voio eventuated to Tsotili; commonly called the ‘’pazarostrates’’. The area’s and the ground’s structure is diversiform, mountainous, hilly with numerous gorges and forests. The entire area comprises one of the most beautiful parts of the Kozani Prefectures, due to its wild nature and the preservation of its traditional villages and buildings.

The stone bridges are referred as the symbol of the municipality. They are built in different periods during the Turkey’s domination, scattered at the slopes of Voio Mountain. Each one has its own history, legends and identity. Stone bridges constitute the vivid memorials of the raised husbandry in the Voio area and Pindos, in general. It was then when the mountainous villages were bloomed of life. The Western Macedonia’s traders, with communities across the central Europe, commuted their goods in Greece and Danube, dealing with the thieves skulking close to the bridges. Of course, times have changed, and most bridges are not used any more, however, their memory is kept living. For the majority of the visitors, these bridges are only the reason for performing enjoyable travels in the nature.

The Damaskinia Village

Damaskinia is one of the biggest ‘’Chestnuts Villages’’, known as the ‘’Kastanoxwria’’ of Voio Mountain. It is located between the Tsotili and Argos Orestiko in an altitude of 950 m. The monastery of St. Athanasios is considered as one of the most significant Byzantine memorials of Western Macedonia.

The Polikastano Village

Polikastano was built in 1970 on the foothills of the Klepsios Moumtain and below the enormous peaks of the Paliokrimini Mountain, which is the highest peak of Voio. Beyond the archaeological discoveries in this area, Polikastano is also known for its chestnut sweets.

The Avgerinos Village

Avgerinos is built in an altitude of 1050 m at the eastern side of the North Pindos, on the foothill of Voio. It is located in a unique area, within rich vegetation and a marvellous view to the Voio province. It is considered among the biggest and most mountainous ‘’Kastanoxwria’’. Aside from its ideal climate and the incomparable natural beauties, it has the art of the old craftsmen impressed in the double decked stone houses and in the churches.

The Zoni Village

Zoni (the old Zantsko) is a mountainous village which welcomes us in the peculiar cordillera of Ontria. The village is surrounded by vertical rocks, composing a landscape not only wild but also quite. A gorgeous forestal road connects the area to Nea Kotili village through endless oak and beech forests.

The Krimini and Rodoxori Villages

Krimini and Rodoxori are two villages which are too different in style and landscape among the other villages of Voio. They look as they are derived from fairytales. Krimini is a graphic and quite village which consists of beautiful stone houses. In its middle, stands the impressive church of St. Eystathios and at its entrance a stone bridge connects the banks of Pramoritsa River.

The Rodoxori figure is commended by the dense vegetation, the mansion houses with their flowery gardens, the cobble-stone pavements, and the magnificent Tsioukati Bridge. At Rodoxori, visitors are able to find a rare variety of mushrooms which are grown close to the river.
